Community Active Protection (CAP)

Community Active Protection (CAP) is a pioneering, not-for-profit security and crime prevention organisation committed to building safer communities across Johannesburg. Established on the belief that crime can be prevented before it happens, CAP has evolved into one of South Africa’s most effective community safety models—driven by intelligence, technology, community partnership, and operational excellence.

CAP’s multi-layered strategy includes 24-Hour armed tactical patrols, cutting-edge off-site monitoring via SmartGuard, a fully equipped Command Centre, and a network of over 600 live-monitored CCTV cameras. Our Special Intervention Unit (SIU), K9 teams, and Field Collections Officers work closely with SAPS and other partners to prevent, detect, and respond to crime.

Beyond security, CAP also facilitates community infrastructure improvements, such as road closures, public space upgrades, and the CAP Green Team’s maintenance and revitalisation efforts. The CAP Legal Department and Crime Analytics Unit support justice, trend monitoring, and strategic deployment.

Our services include CAP at Home Armed Response, proactive public space protection, incident response, and tailored solutions for estates and enclosures.
